 The assessment of x-ray images is an indispensable skill of numerous medical specialties, particularly surgery, orthopedic surgery and radiology. With the beginning of his work the doctor is frequently confronted with the need for fast and certain assessment of x-rays every day. Due to the fact that this basic practical skill is not adequately trained during the medical study there is the need for a substantial training. Yet the compromise is learning-by-doing with all its painful experiences in the first years. Even consultants have the wish to improve and perfect their skills in x-ray assessment because it is not guaranteed that they have seen all relevant pathologies throughout their education.

With this course we present a structured and comprehensive Training of x–ray assessment. Because we cannot train all specialties and subspecialities we concentrate on the most important and time-sensitive area, the emergency room with fractures, luxations, pneumothorax and ileus.

We discuss different criteria of assessment, pitfalls and tricks. The most important part is the extensive hands-on training of 2000 original x-ray images from various clinics. These are all assessed by every single trainee. The training simulates the emergency room by demonstrating original x-rays with normal and pathological findings and the trainee makes a final decision. The feedback if all pathologies were detected is given immediately by the software. By the selection from 3 level-1 clinics we can present all relevant pathologies to every trainee. By this method the “fast sight” of the experienced doctor is developed. Since the vast amount of images usually cannot be completed in the limited time of the course, every participant receives an unlimited license for the software and an USB stick. So the whole course can be completed, grooved and refreshed at home.

This shortens the time of the course itself and allows an individual training.

The application provides all features for a comprehensive training of x-ray assessment:
- short and concise introduction for every anatomical region
- a compilation of standard x-rays from newborn up to adult patients for ever anatomical region
- a special training tool for the training of bone landmarks in children and adults
- 2000 original x-rays which are revised by the trainee;
the feedback if all pathologies are detected is given immediately

The application is personalized and may be used by the participants only. It is installable for Microsoft Windows © XP or higher (3,5 GB free hard drive space needed), IOS / Apple © user need i.e. Wine Bottler, but we strongly recommend the usage of a Windows-PC due to recurrent problems with IOS devices.

The training is suitable for doctors who want to form a basic competence as well as for consultants to perfect their abilities. Our aim is to add a valuable contribution to the education and qualification of doctors in order to minimize mistakes with personal and legal consequences.
